Community Partnerships

Music Partners

Art

Through a partnership with Young Audiences New York and the Brooklyn Queens Conservatory of Music we provide inquiry-based instruction on the process of art making. Art and music are a part of our school culture and a lens for self-expression and communication. Art is a way our students find their personal voices, keep open minds, build community, explore perspective while developing their skills and discipline as artists.

Greenhouse

Our hydroponic greenhouse, supported by NY Sunworks, Urban Advantage, and The Greenhouse Project, uses sustainable local food production to teach science, natural resource management, food production and nutrition. The food grown in our greenhouse supplements our cafeteria produce!

Fitness

We participate in Bike to School Day in conjunction with Bike NY and the NYC DOT.

Nutrition

Through our partnerships with Wellness in the Schools (WITS) and the Department of Health (DOH), we are committed to fostering healthy eating and fitness as a way of life for all members of our community. Our wellness policy ensures that student lunches are the healthiest possible with healthy, scratch-cooked meals provided everyday. Furthermore, we adhere to the following principles when selecting healthy snacks for students: Plain water Unflavored low fat milk • Unflavored fat free milk • 100% fruit or vegetable juice and no added sweeteners. The following non-healthy items are not permitted in school: Chips • Cookies • Gum • Candy.

Technology

Mouse Squad is a group of students providing a valued tech support role in our school and bring innovations in technology and digital media to their peers and teachers. A grant from Computers For Youth supplies our 6th graders with desktop computers and low-cost internet at home to support their learning outside of school while Connected Learning and the iLearn NYC support our school's blended learning development and execution.
